Is GMO Farming Poisoning The World's Drinking Water?

GMO farming practices heavily dependent upon glyphosate herbicide formulations such as Roundup have serious, unintended adverse effects on human and environmental health. New research indicates glyphosate does not break down rapidly, as the manufacturer claimed, but is accumulating in the groundwater -the source for most of the world's drinking water.
Monsanto's Herbicide Linked To Groundwater Contamination In a groundbreaking study published in the journal Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry last year, evidence surfaced that glyphosate, the active ingredient in the Monsanto's patented herbicide Roundup, is flowing freely into the groundwater in areas where it is being applied.1 The researchers found that 41% of the 140 groundwater samples taken from Catalonia Spain, had levels beyond the limit of quantification – indicating that, despite the manufacturer's claims, glyphosate herbicide does not break down rapidly in the environment, and is accumulating there in concerning quantities. Why Is Groundwater Contamination An Important Finding? Groundwater is water located beneath the ground surface, that supplies aquifers, wells and springs.  If a chemical like glyphosate is mobile enough to get into the groundwater and is intrinsically resistant to being biodegraded (after all, it is being used to kill/degrade living things – not the other way around), significant environmental exposures to humans using the water are inevitable. After all, according to the USGS, 88,000 tons were used in the US in 2007 alone. Keep in mind that glyphosate is considered by the EPA as a Class III toxic substance, fatal to an adult at 30 grams, and has been linked to over 20 adverse health effects in the peer-reviewed, biomedical literature. This groundwater contamination study adds to another highly concerning finding from March, 2011,...

New Research: GMO Food Far Worse Than We Think

Disturbing new research published in the Journal of Applied Toxicology indicates that genetically modified (GM) crops with stacked traits, that is, with multiple traits such as glyphosate-herbicide resistance and Bacillus Thuringensis (Bt) insecticidal toxins engineered together into the same plant, are likely far more dangerous to human health than previously believed, due to their synergistic toxicity.
Disturbing new research published in the Journal of Applied Toxicology indicates that genetically modified (GM) crops with "stacked traits" - that is, with multiple traits such as glyphosate-herbicide resistance and Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) insecticidal toxins engineered together into the same plant, are likely to be far more dangerous to human health than previously believed, and all of this is due to their synergistic toxicity. The natural resistance that most plants have to the chemical glyphosate, the active ingredient in the herbicide Roundup, has been engineered into many GM plants, so that fields can be sprayed indiscriminately with herbicide without the plants having to worry about destroying the crops. While the GM glyphosate-resistant plants survive, they subsequently contain residues of glyphosate and its various metabolites (e.g. aminomethylphosphonic acid) that present a significant health threat to the public. In this latest study the glyphosate-containing herbicide Roundup was tested on human embryonic kidney cells at concentrations between 1 to 20,000 parts per million (ppm). It was found that concentrations as low as 50 ppm per million, which the authors noted were "far below agricultural dilutions," induced cell death, with the 50% of the cells dying at 57.5 ppm. The researchers also found that the insecticidal toxin produced by GM plants known as Cry1Ab was capable of causing cell death at 100 ppm concentrations. Taken together the authors concluded...

Pharmaceutically Infused Food, GMO Insects, and Goat Milk?

On a popular online deal today, I saw vitamin infused 'chocolate candy'. These delicious candied morsels are infused with probiotics, calcium, and vitamin D3, then covered in creamy milk chocolate.  Sounds good? Maybe a bit like yogurt with probiotics? Are these getting us psychologically ready for 'special' future medical food, without a 'need’ for vaccines?
By Anne Gordon On a popular online deal today, I saw vitamin infused 'chocolate candy'. These delicious nicely packaged candied morsels are infused with probiotics, calcium, and vitamin D3, then they are covered in creamy milk chocolate.  Sounds good? Maybe a bit like yogurt with probiotics? Are these getting us psychologically ready for 'special’ future medical food, that  is,  without a 'need’ for vaccines? The latest insanity continues. Chillingly, according to the Houston Chronicle, researchers at Texas A&M University  have unveiled a new line of genetically modified (GM) goats that produce a malaria vaccine directly in goat milk. It is disturbing to think that this 'edible vaccine' will be in the milk of a living being. Yes, no more needles might make some people happy, while making new revenues for pharmaceutical companies. The old news is that genetically modified mosquitoes (to prevent malaria) have already been 'created'  and then released in the wild. These 'flying vaccines' were introduced into the Cayman Islands (2009) and Malaysia (2010). In 2012 they are looking to release the GM mosquitos in the Florida Keys, (the first place in US). Wild mosquitoes  are essential in the food chain, but, where are the long-term studies for GM mosquitoes ? These living experimentally modified creatures, 'manufactured’ by Oxitec, were put into the wild, the food chain, without the consent of citizens. Think of what happens when bats eat the GM...

California Public to Vote on GMO Label Act; Lies Begin

Stroller-pushing mothers delivered nearly a million signatures in Sacramento on Wednesday, for an initiative to put to populist vote The California Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act. The ten-week signature drive collected nearly double the amount needed to put the R2K Act on the November 6, 2012 ballot.
The state will take between five and seven weeks to validate the signatures, and then certify the results. Of the 555,236 needed, thousands of volunteers collected 971,126, just shy of the hoped-for million. "In ten weeks, nearly a million registered voters signed the ballot initiative," said Pamm Larry, who single-handedly started the drive on January 20, 2011. "Even biotech engineers gathered signatures for us." Having founded LabelGMOs.org, Larry then coordinated with other pro-labeling civic groups across the state and nation. Victory celebrations were held in Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego today, reported CA Right to Know in a press conference. If voters approve the measure this fall, beginning July 1, 2014, food makers will be required to label those products that contain genetically modified ingredients. Significantly, the "natural" term can no longer be used if the product contains GMOs. There are several exemptions, including GMO-fed and GMO-drugged animals, as well as any raw ag product that was unintentionally contaminated with GMOs. Suppliers and producers may be asked to provide a sworn statement that as far as they know, the...

FDA okays GMO carrot for rare Gaucher disease

The US Food and Drug Admin. just approved a drug made from genetically modified carrots to treat Gaucher, a rare disease found mostly among Ashkenazi Jews. Out of a global population of 6.8 billion, an estimated range of 60-100,000 people carry the recessive gene for it, though not all are symptomatic.
[Republished with permission from the author from the original article] The US Food & Drug Admin. just approved a drug made from genetically modified carrots to treat Gaucher, a rare disease found mostly among Ashkenazi Jews.  Out of a global population of 6.8 billion, an estimated range of 600,000 to a million people carry the recessive gene for it, though not all are symptomatic. The incidence of Gaucher is so rare, in fact, that to approve a GMO carrot for this purpose makes no sense, raising the specter of some unstated plan. As expected when humans ingest active foreign DNA, one of the side effects of the FDA-approved drug, Elelyso®, is anaphylactic shock, among other allergic reactions. Gaucher develops in offspring of parents who both carry and pass on a recessive gene that prevents development of an enzyme that allows "harmful substances to build up in the liver, spleen, bones, and bone marrow," explains the A.D.A.M. Medical Encyclopedia.  "The substances prevent cells and organs from working properly." The recessive gene only appears in 6-10 percent of Ashkenazi Jews, who number just over 10 million today. Several rare genetic diseases are linked to Ashkenazi Jews, who account for 80 percent of all Jews, reports the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, "including Tay-Sachs, Gaucher disease, Bloom syndrome, Idiopathic torsion dystonia, Familial dysautonomia, Factor XI deficiency, and more.  For many of these disorders in which a causative gene...

Corporate Front Groups Fight Against Labeling GMOs

Here's a partial lineup of hired guns and organizations behind the anti-labeling advertising blitz soon to hit the California airwaves. What do a former mouthpiece for tobacco and big oil, a corporate-interest PR flack, and the regional director of a Monsanto-funded tort reform group have in common?
Original Source: Organic Consumers Association Meet the Corporate Front Groups Fighting to Make Sure You Can't Know What's in Your Food Here's a partial lineup of hired guns and organizations behind the anti-labeling advertising blitz soon to hit the California airwaves. What do a former mouthpiece for tobacco and big oil, a corporate-interest PR flack, and the regional director of a Monsanto-funded tort reform group have in common? They’re all part of the anti-labeling PR team that will soon unleash a massive advertising and PR campaign in California, designed to scare voters into rejecting the California Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act. In November, California voters will vote 'yes’ or 'no’ on a law to require mandatory labeling of all GMO ingredients in processed foods, and ban the routine industry practice of mislabeling foods containing GMO ingredients as 'natural.’ Polls show that nearly 90% of the state’s voters plan to vote 'yes.’  But when November rolls around, will voter support still be strong? Not if the biotech, agribusiness, and food manufacturers industries can help it. It’s estimated that the opposition will spend $60 million - $100 million to convince voters that GMOs are perfectly safe. They’ll try to scare voters into believing that labeling will make food more expensive, that it will spark hundreds of lawsuits against small farmers and small businesses, and that it will contribute to world hunger....

Fake Food (GMO) and Pesticides Making You Gain Weight?

Frankly, there is a frightening coincidence glaring at us, right before our eyes. Obesity has become pandemic in the past 30 years, paralleling the use of genetic engineering, and increased pesticide use. More than 60% of Americans are overweight, and obesity has doubled in the past 20 years globally. Our intestines may be colonized with new microbes, making us very sick. Something is seriously wrong here and has not been seen before.
Frankly, there is a frightening coincidence glaring at us, right before our eyes. Obesity has become pandemic in the past 30 years, paralleling the use of genetic engineering, and increased pesticide use. More than 60% of Americans are overweight, and obesity has doubled in the past 20 years, globally. Our intestines may be colonized with new microbes, making us very sick. Something is seriously wrong here and has not been seen before. It doesn't matter how much we wash an ear of corn. We're eating pesticides, chemicals, and new 'foods'. Some people truly believe, that the food source of today is the safest it has ever been. They embrace Genetically Modified (GM) food wholeheartedly, accept irradiation of food, and blindly stuff themselves with the latest food experiment....That is, the human food experiment. Everyday, the average American is exposed to 10 to 13 different pesticides through food, beverages and drinking water. Nine of the 10 most common pesticides are endocrine-disrupting, which have been linked to weight gain. Genetic engineering has produced bizarre toxins, and those toxins are in the GM food that we dish up. It has increased the level of allergens, altered the composition of protein and other nutrients, increasing the GM crop's absorption of pesticides and other chemicals.   A study in the International Journal of Obesity from researchers at 10 different universities, found that the use of hormones in factory meat production could be a possible...

You Think GMO Is Scary? Nano Tech is Here, In Your Store

Nanotechnology is measured in billionths of a meter, encompassing all aspects of life from food to medicine, clothing, to space. Imagine hundreds of microcomputers on the width of a strand of hair programmed for specific tasks....in your body. Sound good?
Nanotechnology is measured in billionths of a meter, encompassing all aspects of life from food to medicine, clothing, to space. Imagine hundreds of microcomputers on the width of a strand of hair programmed for specific tasks....in your body. Sound good? Engineering at a molecular level may be a future corporations' dream come true, however, nano-particles inside your body have few long-term studies especially when linked to health issues. Despite this new huge income-generating field there is a growing body of toxicological information suggesting that nanotechnology when consumed can cause brain damage (as shown in largemouth bass), and therefore should undergo a full safety assessment. It is possible for nano-particles to slip through the skin, suggestive of a potential unnatural interaction with the immune system, or when micro particles enter the blood-stream. Some sunscreens on the shelf today, for instance, have nano-particles that might be able to penetrate the skin, move between organs, with unknown health effects. Nano-particles in cosmetics have few regulations done by FDA.  Thomas Faunce, of the Australian National University, who holds an Australian Research Council fellowship that looks at public nanotechnology health issues, said study's findings are significant and strengthens the case for mandatory labeling, and that stringent safety data should be required from manufacturers.'' Research is showing that nano-particles have the capacity to damage...

Will The GMO-Breast Cancer Link Be Pink-Washed Away?

The bombshell GMO/Roundup study brought to the forefront the link between what we eat and breast cancer risk, less than two weeks before the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Will we let this connection be pinkwashed away?
With Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) less than two weeks away, the latest bombshell GMO/Roundup study produced by a French research team, and presently making international headlines, is well-timed. The researchers found, in the first long-term GM corn and Roundup feeding study of its kind, that female rats, exposed to concentrations well below official safety limits, developed massive, progressive mammary tumors which either lead to premature death, or required euthanasia due to their great suffering. Why would this be of concern to BCAM? After all, BCAM is the annual pinkwashing celebration, where people collectively and forcibly remove the thought of there being preventable and treatable causes of breast cancer from their minds, hurl themselves over the lemming-like cliff of cause-marketing, e.g. Buckets for a Cure, sacrificing their time, energy and money raising billions more for a pharmaceutical cure for a pharmaceutically incurable condition.  This annual ritual celebrates ribbon-wearing vacuity, pretending like "carcinogens" don't exist, or that it doesn't matter that a carcinogen-producing chemical company, now defunct Imperial Chemical Industries, and its  pharmaceutical subsidiary, Zeneca, co-founded Breast Cancer Awareness Month in 1985.   Zeneca, of course, merged with Astra AB in 1999, becoming AstraZeneca, manufacturer of the breast cancer blockbuster drugs Arimidex and Tamoxifen. By pushing for widespread adoption of breast screenings...

The GMO mass experiment on the public is producing results—terrifying ones. GM toxic elements can be found in nearly all pregnant women and children. (Update of the article featured in Genetic Roulette movie.) The toxins designed into genetically modified crops are finding their way into the bloodstreams of all pregnant women and their fetuses. This shocking result belies the genetic modification industry's claims that such toxins are destroyed by the digestive tracts of people who eat the animals fed these GMO crops. Obviously, that claim was based on nothing. (If you've seen reports claiming less than 100% are affected, it's because they picked up the wrong figures from the study, as shown below.) The Study and Results The study, "Maternal and fetal exposure to pesticides associated to genetically modified foods in Eastern Townships of Quebec", was published in the journal Reproductive Toxicology. The authors, Aziz Aris and Samuel Leblanc, examined the blood of 30 pregnant women and 39 nonpregnant women. All births associated with the study were considered normal; babies were at normal birth weights and considered healthy. The authors looked for: Glyphosate, brand name Roundup Gluphosinate, a broad-spectrum herbicide AMPA, aminomethyl phosphoric acid, a metabolite of glyphosate 3-MMPA, 3-methylphosphinico propionic acid, a metabolite of gluphosinate Cry1Ab, the Bt toxin of gluphosinate Interestingly, both glyphosate and gluphosinate...
